Studio: Progress

We’ll provide updates to our Studio project as they happen. Stay tuned for more!

Construction has resumed!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and state-wide stay-at-home orders, construction on our space was halted. On May 11, 2020, after almost two months off, construction has resumed! Construction crews have new social distancing guidelines to follow so progress is slower, but they are on track to be finished by the end of June.

Construction has started!

Construction on the space officially started on Monday, March 16, 2020. They hit the ground running, removing walls first to open up the space.

What Collaborative Work Should Look Like

The group work-shopped how the studio model can help us plan for the design of the physical attributes of the CID Studio Space. Students discussed four areas of their work:

  1. Current research and ways that you visualize or communicate your work.
  1. Future / desired ways that you could visualize / communicate / and collaborate on your work.
  1. Physical / Technological Needs: What kinds of surfaces, media, or technologies would you use or would like to use to visualize and collaborate on your work.
  1. Visual Presence: Ideas for how final or work-in-progress work can remain visible in the space.

Co-Designing the Space: Furniture

Lead by architects from Taubman, we brainstormed how the space could be furnished in different scenarios.

Co-Designing the Space

We held a focus group with our graduate students and lead architect from Taubman to co-design how the new studio space could function.
